What Helped Me After My Breast Ca Surgery

Items I purchased

  • Mastectomy pillow
  • Extra pillows or body pillows, it is difficult to lay down after a mastectomy, so it is best to sleep in a sitting position, I did not need extra pillow because my bed is adjustable, but for those who do not have an adjusted bed extra pillows are good to have, if you have a couch or sofa recliner that is good as well to sleep on
  • Cloths that are easy to put on and take off

Pain

  • Medicine for pain
  • Taking my time in doing what I needed to do
  • Sleep and Rest
  • Being positive

Activities that helped me

  • Journaling
  • Listening to good music
  • Two weeks or more after surgery, I walked daily

Other things that helped

  • Someone to help (caregiver(s)) help with chores and meals
  • Connect with others who have experienced breast cancer surgery
  • Having good back posture. With a mastectomy, I tend to slouch more than usual, I have to constantly remind myself to stand or sit down straight with good posture.
