Trusting God Through My Surgery

My surgery was in December 2023 because I lived one day at a time. I was not afraid of having surgery because I knew God was and always is with me. I did lots of praying and did very little research online about having a mastectomy. I did not want to do too much research online because sometimes things online can be scarier than helpful. So, I did very little research online. Whatever questions I had, I asked my surgeon.

Preparing for Surgery

The day before I got my surgery, I had to get radioactive seed localization in my left breast, which is a procedure that involves implanting a seed in small breast tumors to mark their exact locations, making it easier for surgeons to remove them.

The Day of My Surgery

The day of my surgery, I prayed and trusted that everything was going to be okay. When I checked into the hospital, I waited for a little while until they called my name. I went into the room and got prepared for my surgery. I was a little nervous, but I knew I had God, Archangel Michael, and Archangel Raphael on my side, and everything would be ok.

Recovering After Surgery

After my surgery, waking up with anesthesia in my body was hard for me. I felt so drowsy and dizzy, I could not hold down any food, and everything I ate I vomited. I did not have much pain because of the medications. During the surgery, I had a few lymph nodes removed in my left arm due to the lymph nodes being cancerous, so I could not move my left arm after I had my surgery. I had a compression bra, which can help manage swelling and provide support. I also had four drainage tubes. The drainage tubes needed to be drained and measured by the nurse. I did not want to do my own draining at the hospital because I got nauseous seeing the blood coming out of the tubes.

Discharge and Instructions for Home Care

I had an overnight stay at the hospital. I had to walk with a cane due to the dizziness I was experiencing. I was not able to eat without vomiting until the next day of my hospital stay. The doctor's assistant came to see me and asked me if I wanted to go home. I said yes, I would love to go home. Before I was discharged from the hospital, the nurse gave me instructions on draining the drainage tubes while at home.
