My older sister drove me back home. The ride home was an ease, I bought a mastectomy pillow from Amazon, so the seat belt does not affect my chest area. I got home and rested. My left arm was an issue because I was not moving it due to the pain I was experiencing. Some of my days were easy, and some of my days were hard.
The day after Christmas my older brother Benny came down from Oregon to help me with my recovery, which was a blessing.
A week after my surgery, I had my post op Dr appt with my surgeon, where she saw the surgical site area and removed 3 out of 4 drainage tubes. I never wanted to see my chest area; I had the compression bra on for about 2 and a half weeks. It was in January 2024 when I finally had the courage to see my chest area. It was honestly sad for me to see my chest, being so flat, and seeing all the scarring on my chest area.
My brother Benny and sister Melly were true helpers, they helped with cooking, helped with getting me dressed, helped with draining my drainage tubes, helped with all my post op appt, cleaning and taking my children out so they are not stuck in the house all day. Benny and Melly helped me so much; I am so thankful for them being there with me during my recovery.
